A Nerd’s Response to The Julia Allison Post Article Everyone is Upset About
First, if there is anyone who should be personally outraged and insulted about this piece of garbage, its women. Period. However, because of this line at the end:
So a warning to the next generation of Carrie acolytes. Treat “Sex and the City” like “Star Trek.” A strange new world you will never visit except on TV.
I am also personally outraged and insulted. Here’s why…
- We carry a device in our pockets with instant access to all-collected human knowledge.
- This device can also give us instant communication with everyone we know anywhere in the world.
- It also has instant access to my exact location which we can use to get directions anywhere in the world.
- This device also works pretty darn well with just our voice to control it.
- Most of us haven’t developed film in over a decade.
- We can video chat with our friends, family, and coworkers across the globe.
- Millions of us have a pad that we can write on/type like it’s paper, it also can hold a near endless amount of books, movies, and tv shows. By the end of the week, a new version of this device will look as clear as anything printed.
- Televisions are now flat panels attached to the wall.
- Most of us spend most of our time working on a computer that fits on our lap that is many many times more powerful than the ones they used to land man on the moon. (the Apollo computer’s processors were 1.024 MHz - my home iMac has a 3.1ghz quad core).
If there is any fictional world we now live in… We live in Star Trek.
